Read the poem, then read the man, I wrote that line ten years ago and the same distinction can be made about my music today.
From when I wrote my first song at the age of nine to the hundred I have probably written since, my songs stay reflective, poignant, futuristic and topical as I write from what I see happening around me on all fronts.
The first band I joined in the eighties was with a well established local Black Country band called 'Scarab' where I joined as lead vocalist/frontman, and we played the local circuit with a good following with good reviews playing in the traditional rock mould.
When we disbanded we formed 'Madrid' and carried on in the same way where I feel I brought a touch of sentiment to the music and we played in a more creative style but still playing with a hard rock edge (plus ale).
When 'Madrid' finished I decided to go it alone where I had the freedom to express myself totally in musical style and content and invested in recording equipment where I remain primarily a studio artist to the present day.
I suppose I would label myself a schizophrenic songwriter in song writing terms as I write in a multitude of different styles and guises and yet feel comfortable with that as I feel more creative in the process.
I have released 3 albums and 3 singles to date as a solo artist, and these can be obtained through this music site.
I also write 'England Anthems' whenever the opportunity arises in patriotic vein during Football Tournaments.
Whatever anyone may say, you can't learn to write songs and you can't learn to play instruments unless you inherit that 'magical musical gene' from your gene pool and creator God that is in your psyche as a whole, as you are what you inherit.
At the end of the day my songs and poems are my life's work, because when we all depart this existence it will be nice to know that my songs will live on to give pleasure to family and generations to come.
In summing up I have never been a conformist and never will, you do what is best for yourself, family and loved ones, because who wants to work like a dog if you can live like a King!
